As both an athlete and later as a coach, the word focus was probably the most repeated term spoken and heard in the sport’s arena. “Stay focused and keep your head in the game!” was constantly the emphasis. The intent of this cry is get the athletes to center their efforts on completing the task at hand and the result usually means success on the playing field.
My heart goes out to a friend today who was sand pitting Saturday night with two friends and crashed his truck killing both buddies. Shawn, is in the hospital with a broken back and serious injuries to his brain, liver and aorta valve. A different specialist will be working on restoring each of these components to health. The coach in me cries out to a back surgeon, please stay focused! A wrong move and he will be paralyzed for the rest of his life. Likewise, each of the other surgical team members must stay focused or his mind, liver, and heart functions, or these critical organs could be destroyed. I have said all of this that you might pray for Shawn (and buddies families) as well as to remind us to stay focused on the task at hand and we will get to where we need to be.
Faith is defined in the Holy Scriptures as the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. We need to always exercise faith. Faith is now! The writer John declared that if we are born of God we will overcome and will have victory through our faith.
These tough economic and stressful times that so many are facing, calls for exercising faith.
